Waymo will add custom-built EVs by Chinese company Geely to its robotaxi fleet
In the future, the Robotaxi Waymo fleet in the US will feature an electric vehicle built specifically for services by Chinese car makers Geely. The alphabet company has collaborated with Geely to create a version of the Zeongre All-Electric vehicle that has just been launched specifically for autonomous trips – compete. Waymo has detailed and demonstrated rendering from modified EV, designed in Sweden, in a blog post.
It does not have steering wheels or pedals, as you would expect now from pure autonomous vehicles – where traditional cockpit is a tablet that is likely to function as a navigation and infotainment system. Waymo said they modified the vehicle and gave it flat floors to enter more accessible, head and generous legs, lazy chairs, and chargers around. The company will then enter the driver’s technology, which includes software and hardware components such as cameras and sensors, into vehicles.
The Hail-Hailing Waymo fleet currently consists of Jaguar I-Paces and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids is also modified with the technology. Even though it did not specifically mention the vehicle, a spokesman told TechCrunch that his team with Geely would not affect his current partnership. The company also did not mention when passengers would be able to ride Geely vehicles, only they would be added to their fleet in the US for the next few years.
